Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

No. Consultation services are not covered by insurance.

For therapy, we are a private-pay practice and do not participate directly with insurance plans. This allows us to provide services based on your individual needs rather than insurance requirements or limitations.

If your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, you may be able to submit a receipt or superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to understand your out-of-network benefits. We cannot guarantee reimbursement.

What is individual consulting?

Individual consulting is a private-pay service designed for individuals seeking professional guidance, education, or support that falls outside the scope of psychotherapy. Individual consulting sessions are $175 per session.

Consulting is distinct from therapy and is not a substitute for mental health treatment when psychotherapy or other clinical care is needed.

How much does group consulting cost?

Our 6-session (two-hours each) group consulting series is $600 per participant. The series provides a structured opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with others around a shared area of interest or goal.

Details about upcoming groups, session dates, and registration are provided when each group is offered.

How much does therapy cost?

The fee for an individual therapy session is:

$200 for initial intake session

$175 for a 90837 session (typically a 53-minute psychotherapy session). Other session lengths may be available upon request.

Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

Why choose a private-pay practice?

Private-pay care gives you the opportunity to work with a provider without relying on insurance authorization or treatment limitations. It can also offer greater flexibility in determining the focus and pace of your work together.

For many clients, paying privately is an investment in having a more personalized experience centered on their goals and needs.

Will I receive a receipt or superbill?

Yes. A receipt or superbill can be provided for eligible services upon request. If you intend to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, we recommend confirming your plan’s out-of-network requirements before beginning services.

Will Carys Counseling and Consulting submit claims to my insurance company?

No. Because we are a private-pay practice, you are responsible for payment directly to the practice. If you choose to seek out-of-network reimbursement, you may submit the appropriate documentation to your insurance company yourself.

What forms of payment do you accept?

At intake, you will be required to provide a credit card on file, which will be charged for the service. This is encrypted and stored securely through our electronic health records software, Sessions Health, and we only can see the expiration date and last 4 numbers of the card. Please contact the practice if you have questions about accepted payment methods.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Appointments are reserved specifically for you. Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice or no shows may be subject to the full session fee.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Schedule a consultation or initial appointment to discuss what you’re looking for and determine whether our services are a good fit for your needs. We welcome questions about consultation, fees, therapy, and the process before you schedule.

Are therapy and consulting the same thing?

No. Therapy is a clinical mental health service provided by a licensed mental health professional. Consulting is a non-therapy service focused on education, guidance, or professional support around specific goals or areas of interest.

If you’re unsure which service is right for you, we’re happy to help you determine the appropriate starting point.
